Here is a way to significantly reduce the size of your JSpace Models (JSM's). This applies to the following applications:
Enterprise Navigator 4.1 (or higher)
Schedule Simulator 4.1 (or higher)
Dynamic Animator 4.1 (or higher)
ModelServer Integrator 2.0 (or higher)
MicroStation Schematics 7.1.0 (or higher)
PlantSpace P&ID 7.1.0 (or higher)
PlantSpace Design Series 7.1.4 (or higher)
Interference Manager 7.1.4.24 (or higher)
MicroStation TriForma 7.1.4.24 (or higher)
To reduce the size of the JSM files, the following configuration variable must be set (typically in the project configuration file);
JCOMPRESS=YES
If the above configuration variable is defined, the JSM files will be saved using the a compression algorithm that reduces the size of the files. If the variable is NOT defined, the JSM files will saved as per normal. To "turn off" the reducing of the JSM file size, either delete the configuration variable from the configuration file, or comment it out (#JCOMPRESS=YES).
The applications listed above will READ both "standard" JSM files, and "compressed" JSM files, regardless of the JCOMPRESS being set or not. However, versions prior to the applications listed above will NOT be able to open the compressed files.
Notes:
1. This does not impact the amount of memory required to load JSM files. It merely means less disk space is required to store the files. When calculating the amount of memory required to load JSM's, consider the standard JSM file size, not the reduced size.
2. Reducing the size of the JSM files may result in an increase in the required time to open the files. However, if the files are being opened from a network drive, in an environment where network traffic is an issue, gains may be made using the compression due to the transfer across the network of smaller files.
3. This reduction in the size of the JSM files does not correspond to the "Enable object compression" option in the JSpace MicroStation Connection that is delivered with MicroStation TriForma.
