Reference file search order

When opening a design file MicroStation will look in the following places for reference files, if the file was not attached with "save full path":

1. The current Operating System directory - This is determined by the path of the shortcut, or if a shortcut is not used, usually the operating system default directory e.g. C:\windows
2. The directory that the active design file is in.
3. Any directory set in the variable MS_DEF (where to find design files)
4. MS_REF (where to find reference files).

Setting MS_REF is probably the most common way of setting the path to ref files. When you set these variables remember to add the trailing "\" or "/". The variables are set from 'Workspace' 'Configuration', 'Primary Search Paths'.
